Pumpkin is a delicious part of the fall season. It’s a favorite among members of our weight loss centers because of its high fiber content and small amount of calories. One eight ounce serving packs approximately 1.7 grams of fiber and only 50 calories. Pumpkin is also an excellent source of potassium, vitamin A and plant-based compounds such as phytosterols and carotenoids, including beta-carotene. Studies show that pumpkin also contains high levels of tryptophan, which boosts serotonin levels and improves sleep.
Chia seeds pack a serious nutritional punch. They’re low in calories yet rich in quality protein, fiber and a wide variety of antioxidants. Chia seeds contain high levels of both omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, copper, zinc, iron, iodine and vitamins A, B, D and E. The combination of these two nutritious ingredients and the spices in this recipe make it a powerful weight loss treat.
